I have four children and have experienced a variety of birth scenarios: a planned hospital induction, a medical induction at a hospital, a spontaneous hospital birth, and a planned home birth. Through these experiences, I have encountered both positive and negative moments. One constant for me after each birth was dealing with postpartum depression. Despite having people around me, I often felt incredibly alone. I felt overwhelmed, even though my husband was helping out. I struggled with feelings of guilt for lying in bed and guilt that my older kids were eating microwaved food or spending days in their pajamas during those early weeks.

If I had known about postpartum doulas, I would have hired one. When my husband returned to work, I needed someone to fill the gap, tidy the house, and help with dishes and laundry to prevent them from piling up. I would have appreciated having someone prepare meals, run grocery errands, or support me daily.
